General Conference Activities for Activity Bags

I made General Conference bags and put together activities to go inside each bag. If you missed the post on how I made the bags, you can go here to catch that tutorial.
I made puff paint by using 1/2 cup flour, 1/2 cup salt, and 1/2 water mixed it, added food coloring and then poured into these Wilton plastic bottles. I bought the bottles at Wal-Mart for $2.00 for a 2/pk. Each batch fit in the bottles perfectly.
I made these felt fish a few years ago for my little guy and he still loves them. I have a mini blow up pool we will have ready for the fish to go in the "pond".
Mr. and Mrs. Potato head. I am pretty sure these will be a big hit.
Book of Mormon paper dolls. When I saw the printable here, I knew it would be perfect for one of our activities.

Color by number printables found here. I was going to make homemade watercolor paints, but I have quite a few already, so once those are used I will make some. If you are interested in making watercolor paints of your own you can find the how to here.

Temple matching game.
For this one I just grabbed some of our dot markers and some art paper.
I made homemade play dough and then found these play dough mats and made them smaller so they would fit into the bag.
Apostle match game found here. I made two sets, the first set I made the two-sided cards which I used for the tic-tac-toe game and the second set for this matching game, but left the backs blank. Tic-Tac-Toe Apostle style. When I was at Hobby Lobby buying felt to make the bags, Jaden wanted me to buy the dinosaur felt and asked me to make him something with it. So I came up with this tic-tac-toe. It's played just like tic-tac-toe, we will throw the bean bag on an Apostle card taking turns until someone gets three in a row. There is information on the back of each card that we can learn more about the Apostle while playing if Jaden chooses to do so. This foam kit I had on hand. It is a jungle picture frame. Anything foam would work.
I gathered some Popsicle sticks and glue and I will let creativity begin.

All of the activities in each bag ready for General Conference to begin. If you don't have the same things on hand that I did, search around your house, you may be surprised with what you have and what you can come up with to put inside the bag.

General Conference Activity Bags

General Conference is less than a week away and I am so excited for it and so are my kids. I wanted to share with you what I do for my youngest child to keep him interested in watching all four sessions. I started doing this activity about a year ago when he was four and he absolutely loves his Conference activity bags. When I started them a year ago I used brown paper bags and taped the General Authorities picture to the bag and then put an activity inside the bag. When a General Authority spoke he would find the picture on the bag and do the activity while he spoke. He would continue this with each speaker. It helped him recognized who the General Authorities are. I wanted to prefect my bags, the pictures would fall off and the paper bags get pretty hammered with little hands. So I came up with some with something I think is perfect for our Conference activity bags, and I am going to show you how I made them.
I started out with two pieces of felt per bag.
I cut 2" squares out of each corner.
Take one of the felt pieces and measure 7 1/2" from the cut out piece to the top and make a mark. Do the same thing on the other side.
From the mark measure 1" in and then draw a curve for the flap of the bag.
Do that to both sides and then cut following your lines.
On the second piece of felt measure from the top of the square cut out pieces (like you did above) and measure 7 1/2" to the top and make a mark. Do that on both sides and then cut across on your mark. (see bottom left picture).
Take your two pieces and put them together. Sew down both sides and on the bottom as shewn below.
Now open your bag, put the two seams together.
Sew across where you put the two seams together.
This is what it will look like after you sew across your seams. Do the same thing on the other side.
Turn your bag inside out and this is what is looks like.
Next I added Velcro to the bag.

I then cut a piece of plastic and hot glued it to the front of the bag. I tried sewing the plastic on, but it was a pain and didn't look good in the end so I opted to do hot glue.
I then inserted a picture of each General Authority into each plastic piece on each bag (15 in case you didn't know) I also made a couple of extra bags for when someone other than a General Authority speaks. I will also let my little guy choose to do an activity that he has already done if he so chooses during those speakers also. I found the printable cards here.
I love how they turned out and my little guy is so excited for Conference and keeps asking me if it's Conference time yet.

Dinosaur Felt Book

I made this felt dinosaur book for Jaden. He loves dinosaurs, so I thought this would be a great thing for him to have. I don't have tutorial for this because I wasn't quite sure what I was doing with it and if it would turn out. It did turn out great and Jaden loves it.

I put a Velcro flap to hold the book shut and added handles for Jaden to carry.

This is the inside of the book. On the left side I have two mats that he can play with on the other side I made a pocket for the dinosaurs.

I put Velcro on the pocket so the dino's won't fall out.
I also put Velcro on the left side of the book to place the different mats on.
This is one of the mats that I made. I found the image from a coloring book and used it for my mat.

This is the other mat that I made.
I love how it turned out and it was really easy to make.

Kids Clipboard Chalkboards

I have a cute and inexpensive gift to show you today. These are mini clipboards, one side can be used for writting and the other side is a chalkboard.

I bought my clipboards at the dollar store. I took my mini clipboard and painted chalkboard paint on the back, I did a couple of coats of paint.
Once it was dried I mod podged my paper on the front of the clipboard.
I then added ribbon to the clipboard.
I think they turned out so cute. They were so easy to make. They will be great gifts for my kids' friends.
