Dinosaur Hooks

Have you all wondered if I have finished (forgot) the boy room makeover? Yell, it's not done yet. It's still a work in progress, just a few more details until I show you the big reveal. If you have missed the posts so far you can see them here, here, here, here, here, here, here and here.

I have to tell you that this project that I am about to show you, the idea came from my fifteen year old daughter. . . DINOSAUR HOOKS!!!! Brilliant!!

I started out with toy dinosaurs. Looked for the ones that had a "hook" like head and body. I bought them at Wal-Mart for $1.00 a piece.

Hubby took each dinosaur and cut it in half.
Hubby then traced the body onto a piece of wood to cut and put inside the dinosaur so we would have a way for the dinosaur adhere to the base. The base hubby made by cutting a square piece of wood and routered the edges.
I glued each piece of wood to the base piece and then painted the base.
We then took each dinosaur and put onto the small wood piece and nailed the dinosaur to the inside piece of wood and base.



They are now ready to hang on the wall.

Dinosaur Crate

I wanted a crate to put Jaden's toy dinosaurs in and to go along with his room decor. I painted the crate, stenciled the front of the crate with "dinosaur and the sides of the crate with "caution". I then sanded the whole thing and then took a wet rag and dabbed some brown paint and rubbed it all and over the box. I love how it turned out.

Burlap Dinosaur Plaques

It's been awhile since I have worked on Jaden's room makeover. I'm excited to get back to the makeover and get his room completed. That brings me to this post, I made these dinosaur plaques for Jaden's room.
They were so easy and I used scrap wood - cut and sanded each piece.
I wanted a rustic look so I took a damp cloth and dabbed it into brown paint and just wiped the paint onto the board.
I stenciled my dinosaur images onto my burlap. I used spray adhesive to adhere the burlap to the board. I used my sander to sand the edges of each board.

Love how they turned out. I will post soon where I put them in his room.

Burlap Wood Letters

I wanted to show you the progress on our little boys room. I won't be doing any more on his room until after Christmas, so I thought you might want to see what his wall looks like with the dinosaur boards hung. I had some wooden letters that I bought a long time ago for his room and decided to put them above the dinosaur boards.
I took my wood letters and painted the sides.
I then used spray adhesive to adhere the burlap to the letters.
Hung them to the wall.

I love how his room has turned out.

Boy Room Makeover Update

My little boys room is coming right a long. I put his bed in his room. I am loving how it's looking. I still have quite a few more things I want to do to have his room finished. I want to find a night stand and re-finish it to put in the right corner of his room. I still need to do curtains for the window. I have a plan and hope it works out.
On the other side of his bed is his dresser, this is temporary. I want to put shelves in his closet to put his clothes and then he won't have the dresser in his room. I still want to add a reading nook in his room. Still working on ideas for this one.

Here's a sneak peak of the dinosaur boards. I'm excited to get the room finished, it may be a little bit before the complete reveal. I am doing this room on a budget, and I'm still trying to find a night stand to re-finish, and I am going to sew the curtains. Notice the train tracks on the floor? My little by couldn't wait until I find a new home for his train table. I guess the floor works just as well. Besides working on my little boys room I have been working on Christmas gifts, make sure to come back and see what I have created.

Trimmed out Window

The little boy room make over is coming along. Here is a little sneak peak on what the walls look like. We put molding around the window, I love how it turned out. Taking pictures was so hard to do. If I tried during the day, I would get a huge glare from the window and if I waited to do it at night I have the flash issue. I do like the view of this pretty sunrise.
I haven't decided what window treatment I want. He had blinds in there, I don't know if I should put the blinds back up. I would like a change, but not sure what. That's why the brackets for the blinds are still up, I don't know if I should do curtains. Then if I do, do I make them long or just to the window seal, so the molding will still show? Any thoughts?

Dinosaur Wall Art

In the first post I made about redoing my little boys room, I showed you my inspiration pictures. Remember the dinosaur wall art from pottery barn? Well, I have finished my dinosaur boards. I love how they turned out. I will show you what they look like on the wall in the bedroom reveal post. I am getting close to having the room done. So here is my version of the dinosaur wall art.

Here was my inspiration picture. Pottery barn went darker on the distressing than what I did, I didn't want to go to dark, since the walls are painted a dark brown.
Here are the other two dinosaur wall art boards that I came up with.

Want to know how I did it? Good, cause I'm going to tell you. I first went to Home Depot and bought a 4"x8" sheet of ply-wood and had them cut into three pieces measured at 35"x28". I then painted it white.
This is where it got a little tricky, I found the images I wanted and planned on using an overhead projector to trace the image onto the board. I couldn't find an overhead projector. I checked with the schools and the library and no one has them any more. So plan "B". Plan "B", was to have hubby draw them and then I would trace the image onto the board.
He did such a good job, just what I wanted.
Once the image was traced I then painted each image.
Did a little distressing.
Now they are ready to hang. So exciting to see his room transform.
